The victim, Prashant Sreekumar, a 44-year-old Indian-origin Canadian national and father of three, reportedly experienced severe chest pain while at work. He was taken to the hospital’s emergency department, where he was asked to wait for an extended period before receiving medical attention.
According to media reports, Sreekumar repeatedly complained of worsening chest pain but remained unattended for several hours. He reportedly collapsed and died before a doctor could examine him. “The person is of Indian origin, but he happens to be a Canadian national. So, obviously the government of Canada should take responsibility in this particular matter,” Jaiswal said during a press briefing.
Calling the death an “unfortunate incident,” the MEA expressed deep condolences to Sreekumar’s family and assured that Indian officials are closely coordinating with local authorities in Canada to understand the circumstances leading to his death.
“Our consulate is providing all possible assistance to the family,” Jaiswal added.
