Budget Session 2026 to Begin on January 28, Parliament to Sit Till April 2
The Budget Session of Parliament for 2026 is set to begin on January 28 and will continue till April 2, marking one of the most important legislative periods of the year. The session will be held in phases, with a recess in between, following established parliamentary practice.
The session will commence with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint sitting of both Houses, outlining the government’s priorities and policy direction for the year ahead. This will be followed by the presentation of the Economic Survey, which will review the state of the Indian economy, key challenges, and growth prospects.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to table the Union Budget during the first phase of the session. The budget will draw close attention from lawmakers, industry bodies, and citizens alike, as it sets out the government’s fiscal roadmap, taxation proposals, and expenditure plans.
Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha are likely to witness extensive debates on budgetary allocations, economic reforms, and sector-specific measures. Apart from financial business, the government is also expected to introduce and take up several key bills for discussion and passage during the session.
The Budget Session of the Parliament of India is seen as a crucial forum for parliamentary scrutiny, accountability, and policy-making ahead of the new financial year.
