10 Soldiers Killed as Army Vehicle Falls Into Gorge in J&K’s Doda
Ten Indian Army soldiers were killed on Thursday after a military vehicle skidded off a narrow mountain road and plunged into a deep gorge in Doda district, officials said.
A total of 21 Indian Army soldiers were travelling in the military vehicle that fell into a deep gorge in Doda district
The accident took place near Khanni Top along the Bhaderwah–Chamba road when the vehicle, carrying Army personnel on routine movement duties, lost balance on a sharp bend and rolled down a steep slope. The gorge is estimated to be several hundred feet deep, complicating rescue efforts.
Army and civil authorities said that multiple soldiers sustained critical injuries in the fall. While some personnel died on the spot, others were evacuated in serious condition but later succumbed to their injuries despite medical intervention, taking the death toll to 10.
A coordinated rescue operation involving the Army, local police, disaster response teams and villagers was launched immediately after the incident. Rescue personnel used ropes and specialised equipment to retrieve the injured and recover bodies from the ravine amid difficult terrain and cold weather conditions.
The injured soldiers were shifted to military medical facilities in the region, with critically wounded personnel airlifted to higher centres for advanced treatment.
